Brainspotting

Where you look affects how you feel

Brainspotting is a somatic (body-based) therapy that uses eye placement to access neural pathways responsible for our behavior and emotions, located in the deep subconscious brain.

Engaging your visual field, while being held in a sacred healing space (called attunement), allows the brain to heal at a deeper level within the subconscious mind. If you are familiar with other prominent therapies, Brainspotting is considered next-generation EMDR.

Much deeper and more profound than simply talking about our problems, Brainspotting allows us to get to the root of the issues and source answers to our problems from a deeper, more holistic place within.

Our subconscious brain is responsible for our emotions and our survival strategies. It reacts 10-12% faster than our conscious mind. That means that when something stressful happens, our subconscious mind decides how we will react before the conscious mind has a chance to interject.

Biologically, this is a great survival strategy, but as a functioning member of society, it can cause a lot of pain and stress.

When we have trauma or past pain, it gets stored in the subconscious mind to prevent similar pain from recurring. Because stress will override higher functioning, past trauma and unresolved past hurts can be hyper-reactive, like a spring-loaded trigger.

Often, people with active or latent trauma or painful memories can have frequent experiences of being:

Stuck On: Anxiety, constant low-level stress, or hyper-vigilance

Stuck Off: Depression, sadness, low energy, apathy, or the “blahs”

Instead of being integrated in a healthy way that supports us, past hurts and trauma remain in the brain as triggers, activating painful memories, troubling coping strategies, and emotional or physical pain.

It is very difficult to help liberate, integrate and heal trauma in our subconscious mind through talking or traditional coaching. Often it makes it worse because talking stirs up the emotions, but doesn’t offer the integration that is needed for a full release. Brainspotting is different. It uses our brains’ natural healing capabilities to our advantage.

In the photos below, you can see brain reactivity before and after a Brainspotting session. When we decrease stress activation in the brain, it frees up our energy, life force, and brainpower to experience more happiness, peace, and positivity.

We know how to heal and have happier lives. It happens when we free ourselves from trauma, painful self-beliefs, and memories that are wreaking havoc in our present-day lives. The byproduct of not dealing with past pain is discomfort: Depression, anxiety, anger, shut-down, hyper-sensitivity, hyper-vigilance, and hyper-reactivity. Emotional wellbeing and balance can happen after we give the brain and body the ability to heal.

Brainspotting offers emotional freedom.
